There have been
a lot of changes
over the years,
and most
lumberyards have
become a thing
of the past.
"Even back in
the 1970's there
were lumberyards
all over the
area," maintains
Edd Goralnik,
owner of Lyon &
Billard. "There
were four in
Meriden, four in
Middletown, four
in Southington,
four in
Wallingford, and
two lumberyards
in Cheshire... I
can think of
about 18
lumberyards back
then. Now where
are they? They
are almost all
gone. There are
only three of us
left now." What
does Goralnik
attribute this
to? "Hard work,"
he states
simply.
